    Affiliation: Dr. Liang is director of the Pat and Jim Calhoun Cardiology Center and chief of cardiology at UConn School of Medicine. Dr. Liang has studied ischemic preconditioning and cardioprotection for nearly two decades. He was among the first to elucidate a protective role of adenosine A3 receptors in the heart and to demonstrate a role of phospholipases C and D in muscle protection. Dr. Liang has an active clinical practice in cardiology including caring for patients with atrial fibrillation.

    Affiliation: Bruno Schwagten graduated as a cardiologist in September 2007. In Oktober 2007, he started his fellowship in clinical Electrophysiology at the Thoraxcenter, Erasmus MC, Rotterdam, the Netherlands under the supervision of Prof. Dr. L. Jordaens. He completed his PhD thesis entitled `Faster, safer and better catheter ablation?` under the auspices of Prof. Dr. L. Jordaens and Dr. T. Szili-Torok. He works as an electrophysiologist at the Middelheim hospital in Antwerp, Belgium. He is trained in working with all common tools used in electrophysiology such as cryotherapy, radiofrequency ablation, CARTO and Ensite systems, but his major expertise is performing electrophysiologic procedures remotely using the Magnetic Navigation System. He is a board member of the nucleus of the Belgium Heart Rhythm Association and faculty of the Society of Cardiac Robotic Navigation.

He started his career in cardiac electrophysiology as a member of the Dept. of Physiology in Maastricht with Prof. Schotten and defended his PhD-thesis “Experimental Studies on New Therapeutic Approaches in Atrial Fibrillation“ at Maastricht University. Since 2010, he follows an internship at the Dept. of Cardiology in Homburg/Germany. Main research topics are: Cellular and integrated action of antiarrhythmic drugs, electrophysiological effects of modulators of the autonomic nervous system, and the development of substrates for the perpetuation of atrial fibrillation.

  • Dr. Eddy Lang, MD.

    Affiliation: Eddy Lang is an Associate Professor in the Division of Emergency Medicine, Department of Family Medicine at the University of Calgary and holds the position of Senior Researcher with Alberta Health Services. He is a member of the Thrombosis Interest Group of Canada where he has contributed to the development of guidelines on anticoagulation-related bleeding management. His areas of interest are knowledge translation, evidence-based medicine and operations research. Dr. Lang is a member of the GRADE working group and has led the development of GRADE-based clinical practice guidelines in pre-hospital care in the US.     Affiliation: Dr. Girish Nair graduated from the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER- a deemed University), Pondicherry, India. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine and Cardiology from the University of Delhi, India. He moved to Canada in 2002 and completed a clinical/research fellowship in Interventional Cardiac Electrophysiology from the University of Toronto and associated Toronto General Hospital. Dr. Nair has also completed his MSc. in Health Research Methodology form McMaster University. He served as a faculty in the Division of Cardiology at McMaster University from 2004 to 2012. Dr. Nair joined the Division of Cardiology at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute at the rank of Associate Professor on the 1st of October 2012. Dr. Nair’s current research interests lie in the fields of Atrial Fibrillation, Sudden Cardiac Death and Ventricular tachycardia with a specific focus on evaluating treatment strategies and knowledge transfer. His clinical focus is on complex ablations including Atrial Fibrillation, Ventricular Tachycardia and arrhythmias in the grown up congenital heart disease population.

  • Dr. Guijing Wang, PhD.

    Affiliation: He is a senior health economist in the Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). He joined the CDC in 1995 as an economist after his postdoctoral work in economics of food safety and nutrient intake for two years at the University of Georgia. Since 2008, he has been leading research projects in economics of heart disease and stroke prevention by developing and implementing research agenda on all matters related to the analyses and collection of economic data relevant to CDC’s goals.

    Affiliation: Dr. Hickey is an Associate Professor of Nursing at Columbia University Medical Center and holds a joint appointment in the Division of Cardiology (electrophysiology) as both a family and adult nurse practitioner. Her interdisciplinary research, clinical practice and scholarship is focused in the areas of cardiac genetics, the clinical care of those with chronic cardiac conditions and arrhythmias, and the prevention of sudden cardiac death. Her current grant awards include a R01 from the National Institute of Nursing Research (iHEART) focusing on arrhythmia telehealth monitoring in those with atrial fibrillation, her newly awarded (multiple-PI) P30 award with Dr. Suzanne Bakken is focusing on improving symptom self-management for underserved populations with or at risk for chronic health conditions.

  • Dr. Hiroshi Nakagawa, MD, PhD.

    Affiliation: Professor of Medicine at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, Oklahoma City, OK. He is Director of Clinical Catheter Ablation Program, Director of Translational Electrophysiology and Associated Director of Heart Rhythm Institute. His clinical and research interests are focused on catheter mapping and ablation of complex atrial and ventricular arrhythmias.

  • Dr. Hui-Nam Pak, MD, PhD.

    Affiliation: Professor Pak is a cardiac electrophysiologist at Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea. He is a director of Cardiac intervention and electrophysiology laboratory, Severance Cardiovascular Hospital, Yosei University Health System, and a steering committee member of Korean Heart Rhythm Society and Korean Circulation Society.     Affiliation: Dr. Sra is the medical director of electrophysiology for Aurora Cardiovascular Services and a clinical professor of medicine for the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center. He is the program director of Aurora’s Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship Program, one of the longest running and largest in Wisconsin. Dr. Sra is internationally recognized for setting a new standard in the treatment of heart rhythm disorders.

  • Dr. Jeff Healey, MD, MSc, FRCP(C), FHRS.

    Affiliation: Jeff Healey is the director of arrhythmia services at Hamilton Health Sciences, Professor of medicine at McMaster University and the Population Health Research Institute Chair in Cardiology Research. He is also the principal investigator and chair of the Canadian Stroke Prevention Intervention Network (CSPIN), which is conducting a series of clinical trials related to atrial fibrillation and stroke prevention and will also support the development of new Canadian researchers in this field. He is the past co-chair of the Canadian Cardiovascular Society’s Atrial Fibrillation Guidelines Committee and past chair of the Cardiac Care Network of Ontario’s Heart Rhythm Working group.

  • Dr. Jeroen ML Hendriks, RN, PhD, NFESC.

    Affiliation: Dr Hendriks is a registered nurse and Health Scientist who received his PhD in 2013 at Maastricht University Medical Centre (the Netherlands), focusing on Integrated Chronic Care Mangement for Patients with Atrial Fibrillation. In 2015 Dr Hendriks took up the Derek Frewin Lectureship at the Centre for Heart Rhythm Disorders, University of Adelaide and Royal Adelaide Hospital (Australia), where he will develop the Academic Atrial Fibrillation Nursing Program.

  • Dr. Jian-Fang Ren, MD, FACC.

    Affiliation: Dr. Ren is an echocardiologist and consultant for the intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) training program for cardiac electrophysiology fellows in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania Health System, Philadelphia, 1999-2015. Dr. Ren had previously served as Sinior investigator/Research Professor of Medicine at the Medical College of Pennsylvania/Hahnemann University and Presbyterian Medical Center, Philadelphia. Dr. Ren has been working with Dr. Marchlinski’s electrophysiology group since 1992 and has been the champion and pioneer related to the use of ICE for electrophysiological ablation procedures and focused his research efforts in this area.

    Affiliation: Dr. Jonathan Steinberg is currently the Director of the Arrhythmia Institute in the Valley Health System located in New York and New Jersey, USA. He had been Professor of Medicine at Columbia University for more than a decade during which time he was responsible for training more than 20 electrophysiology fellows. He has published more than 170 peer-reviewed papers and more than 40 book chapters. Dr. Steinberg has served in numerous executive positions in a host of large scale multicenter clinical trials. His current research interests focus on atrial fibrillation and design of randomized clinical trials of advanced or innovative ablation techniques.
